Cincinnati chorus will groove to the sound of the '60s
On June 7 and 8, 1996 the Cincinnati Men's Chorus will present “Feelin' Groovy: a '60s Revue," in the JarsonKaplan Theater at the Aronoff Center for the Arts as a part of Cincinnati's celebration of gay pride.
"Feelin' Groovy," the third and final concert of the chorus's 1995-96 season, "will take the chorus to a new level of production never before enjoyed by chorus audiences," said Chorus board member and public relations director Eric Hunter. "This show will be like no other chorus show anyone has seen.
"We're breaking out of usual black and white dress," said Hunter. Chorus members will don tie-dyed shirts and blue jeans for their first concert at the Aronoff Center.
"The Chorus's first guest emcee Carol Sherman-Jones, performer and owner of Carol's Corner Cafe, will take the audience on a journey through this remarkable decade of struggle," said Hunter. She will sing "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" in a
solo performance.
"From the familiar songs of the Fab Four to songs of protest. Whether you listened to '60s music the first time around, or you are a fan of the re-released singles, anthologies, and club mixes out today, these tunes hold
memories for everyone,” said Hunter.
Both performances will begin at 8:07 pm. Tickets for "Feelin' Groovy" are available through chorus members, by calling the Chorus Hotline at 513-861-4042, by calling Ticketmaster at 513-241-7469.
Tenth annual Dayton dinner to feature 'Proud Voices'
The tenth annual Dayton-Miami Valley Pride Dinner will feature "Proud Voices," stories of Miami Valley's diverse people, including gays and lesbians.
The dinner will be on Saturday, June 15 at the Dayton Convention Center at 22 E. 5th St., downtown. The Dayton Lesbian and Gay Center, which is celebrating its twentieth year of community service, is sponsoring the event again this year.
"Proud Voices: A Celebration of Our Gay and Lesbian Culture," will be performed by the Dayton Stories Project, a partnership of Cityfolk, the Human Race Theatre Company, the Montgomery County Historical Society and other arts,
cultural and community organizations.
The project "was created to tell and share stories of, by and for the people of Dayton and the Miami Valley, particularly those whose stories have not been heard. Central to the project is the belief that stories have the power to affirm individuals' lives, promote understanding of Dayton's diverse cultures and create communities where people know and cherish one another."
Tickets are $28 and must be purchased by June 7. Checks should be made payable to "Pride 96," and can be sent to P.O. Box 4134, Dayton, 45401.
